Adirondack Cottage
A Designer 2 bedroom/1 bath pet-friendly cottage walking distance to Highlands
The treehouse everyone wishes they had found first. Some homes are simply a place to sleep. Adirondack Cottage is part of the vacation itself. Hidden beneath a canopy of towering hemlocks and old-growth rhododendrons, this former artist's studio feels like a luxury treehouse tucked into the forest—yet you're only a leisurely half-mile walk from Main Street Highlands. Wake to birdsong streaming through the skylights, sip coffee among the trees from your Adirondack chairs, spend the afternoon exploring waterfalls or boutique shops, then return home to a peaceful retreat that feels worlds away from town.
With soaring 20-foot vaulted ceilings, artisan details, abundant natural light, and a spa-inspired slate shower, Adirondack Cottage is designed for couples, small families, girlfriends' getaways, and anyone looking for an authentic Highlands experience with uncommon style.
Adirondack Cottage is quaint at its finest. This 2 bedroom/1 bathroom cottage is described by most as “the treehouse” and it won’t take you long to find out why. Featuring soaring 20 foot ceilings and flooded with natural light, you’ll reside in style while being within walking distance to everything Highlands has to offer.
The Location: Adirondack Cottage is located within the Highlands town limits near Harris Lake and behind Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it’s a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located.
The Property: Upon arrival at the property, guests are greeted by a beautiful grove of Hemlock trees. There is a small parking area that allows for 2 cars and to the left, guests will climb roughly 10 stairs to enter the cottage. Aptly named Adirondack Cottage, it’s here, at the top of the stairs where 2 red Adirondack chairs adorn the front porch.
The Cabin: A former artist’s studio, the cottage will channel your inner creativity. From its antique windows and cedar shake exterior to the spa-like slate shower, this cozy cabin has big character. It’s privatized by the screens of old growth rhododendrons that surround the cottage from all sides, giving it the feel of being in the trees. The interior features soaring 20 foot ceilings, lots of skylights, and wood walls. Unique decor, colorful accents, and attention to detail take the charm to another level.
The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a big, open L-shaped space with 20 foot ceilings. The kitchen is straight ahead with a small bistro table and the living area to the right. Past the living area, there is a small hallway, complete with built in bookshelves. The bathroom with sizable shower is accessible from the hallway, with the main bedroom (with King bed) being at the end of the hallway. The guest bedroom (Queen bed) access is adjacent to the common area, beside the bistro table.
The Area: Highlands is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it’s quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it’s one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world.
Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop.
The Details: The living room and master bedroom both have flat screen TV’s with wifi for streaming capabilities. All of the bedding is memory foam- we understand everyone has their preference, but we get lots of compliments on our comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. This property is pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee. Parking for 2 cars is available. A washer/dryer is available only to renters staying longer than one week.
