High Hemlock
A walk to town 2 bedroom/2.5 bath pet-friendly cabin with fenced yard, wood burning fireplace, and soaring ceilings
Some vacations are all about adventure. Others are about slowing down long enough to enjoy your morning coffee on the porch, stroll into town for dinner, and return home to a crackling wood-burning fireplace. High Hemlock was designed for exactly that kind of escape.
Nestled beneath towering hemlocks and mature rhododendrons on one of Highlands' most desirable in-town streets, this beautifully restored 1940s cottage combines timeless mountain character with elevated design. Inside, vaulted ceilings with antique wood beams, wide-plank hardwood floors, shiplap walls, and abundant natural light create a home that feels warm, refined, and unmistakably Highlands.
Just a rare half-mile walk from Main Street, you'll spend less time driving and more time discovering award-winning restaurants, boutique shopping, art galleries, and the charm that has made Highlands one of the Southeast's most beloved mountain destinations. Whether you're gathering around the fireplace after a day of hiking, relaxing with your dog in the fenced yard, or enjoying a quiet evening on the rocking-chair porch, High Hemlock offers the kind of effortless mountain getaway guests return to year after year.
High Hemlock’s stunning finishes and unbeatable location make this 2 bedroom/2.5 bathroom cabin the perfect spot for an upscale mountain escape. Professionally designed with thoughtful touches at every turn, you and your guests will be able to unwind in privacy without ever being far from the action.
The Location: High Hemlock is located within the Highlands town limits near Harris Lake and behind Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it’s a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located.
The Property: High Hemlock is located on a 1/2 acre fenced and wooded lot with a small mossy side yard. Hemlock groves, thick, old growth rhododendrons, and maples add privacy from the street. There are 4 rocking chairs on the front porch that are perfect for bird watching or listening to the peace and quiet or the occasional church bells.
The Cabin: As some of our renters once said, “walking into High Hemlock is like stepping into a Garden & Gun spread.” Open the creaky screened door to the subtle smell of firewood and the rhododendrons blooming beside the front porch. The cabin is flooded with natural light. Finishes include all shiplap walls, wide-plank hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings with antique wood beams, local slate tile, and the original 1940’s.
The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a large open space that houses the living room with wood burning fireplace on the right, and the dining room for 6 on the left. Both ensuite bedrooms are off of the main living area (both with King beds). The galley kitchen is to the far left behind the dining room wall and looks out onto the side mossy yard.
The Area: Highlands is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it’s quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it’s one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world.
Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop.
The Details: The living room and both bedrooms have flat screen TV’s and wifi. All of the bedding is memory foam- we understand everyone has their preference, but we get lots of compliments on our comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. This property is pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee. gated parking is available for 2 cars.
